Invented by Dennis Dean in the mid-'70s, the system was used to win over 120 world motorcycle drag race records. Dennis is an engineer with a Ph.D. in acoustics and wanted to be able to make quick and easy adjustments to his motorcycle carbs. Lonn Peterson, who has over 30 years of powersports experience with snowmobiles, ATV*s and motorcycles, saw the potential of improving a machine's carburetion. After getting so much positive feedback from his customers, he decided to buy Dial-A-Jet from Dennis and has turned it into the biggest jetting improvement you can make to a carburetor. Lonn has made many improvements to the basic Dial-A-Jet package to make the system function better, fit better and improve user friendliness.

Modern motorcycles run lean in mid range with non adjustable jetting. When an exhaust header system and/or a high flow air cleaner is installed, the engine runs even leaner and also hotter. At this point rideability problems occur - lean misfires (detonation), hot running engine, dead spots in the carburetion - making the motorcycle difficult or annoying to ride. Shifting may also become difficult being that the transmission usually shares the overheated engine oil, as does the clutch assembly.

More detailed information may be obtained by reading Motorcyclist Magazine's product test.

Dial-A-Jet is a completely adjustable jetting system that delivers maximum horsepower from any engine and improves throttle response and fuel mileage. It works well with stock or modified engines, standard or high performance air boxes and exhaust systems. Easy to install kits are available for all motorcycles.

    COMPONENTS

    INSTALLATION

    1. TURN FUEL PETCOCK TO "OFF" POSITION
    2. REMOVE ALL BODY PARTS THAT OBSTRUCT INSTALLATION TO CARBURETORS (TANK AND CARBURETOR COVERS)

    3. DRAIN THE CARBURETORS, AND REMOVE THE DRAIN FITTINGS. INSTALL THE FLOAT BOWL ADAPTERS.

    4. PLUMBER`S TEFLON SEALING TAPE MAY BE USED ON THE THREADS FOR EXTRA SEALING PROTECTION

    5. REMOVE THE FUEL DELIVERY TUBES FROM THE DIAL-A-JET BODIES. ATTACH THE NYLON TIE CLAMPS TO THE DIAL-A-JET BODY. (NOTE: THERE ARE LEFT SIDE AND RIGHT SIDE BODIES) .......

    6. ROUTE THE TIE-WRAPS AROUND THE AIR FILTER BOOTS AND PULL THE DIAL-A-JET INTO POSITION ABOUT 45 DEGREES OUTBOARD FROM THE TOP AND CLEAR OF OBSTRUCTIONS. PLASE THE DIAL-A-JET IN THE DESIRED POSITION.

    7. USING THE CUTTING TOOL SUPPLIED, PUT THE SHARP END THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE DIAL-A-JET BODY AND USING A TURNING AND PUSHING MOTION, CUT A HOLE IN THE AIR FILTER BOOT.

    8. INSTALL THE FUEL DELIVERY TUBES THROUGH DIAL-A-JET BODIES.

    9. GENTLY TIGHTEN.

    10. CUT FUEL LINES TO LENGTS AND PUSH ALL FUEL LINES AND FLOAT BOWL ADAPTER FITTINGS.

    11. INSTALL THE SILVER FUEL LINE PROTECTION IN AREA WITH CONTACT, ABRATION AND HEAT.

    12. SNORKEL KIT; Designed to feed clean filtered air to the Dial-A-Jet.

    13. On the Valkyrie the best is to cut the vent line close by the Snorel Boot and mount the filter as shown on the picture below.

      AFTER THE FUEL TANK INSTALLED

NOW WE ARE READY FOR THE TEST RIDE

    TUNING

The smallest hole on the Dial-A-Jet is the richest setting (when positioned like "A") and the largest hole is the leanest setting (when positioned like "B")

The dial is set in the center of all 5 setings when the arrow on the dial is pointed toward the lock down screw "C". The (-) means leaner and the (+) means richer.

Start with the DIAL-A-JET dial setting specified below and calibrate from there.

    TESTING

Test at full throttle in third gear. If midrange is poor and top end is good, the dial is set too lean (-)

If midrange is good and top end is weak, the dial is set too rich (+)

IF TOO RICH: Loosen fuel delivery tube one turn and turn the dial one click minus (-)

IF TOO LEAN: Loosen fuel delivery tube one turn and turn the dial one click plus (+)

MY EXPERIANCE ARE GOOD! THROTTLE RESPONSE AND POWER ARE MUCH MORE THAN I EXPECTED. EASY INSTALLATION (ABOUT 3 HOURS). NEXT TIME LESS THAN 2.

I HAD MY VALKYRIE DYNO TESTED WITHOUT AND WITH THE DIAL-A-JET. THE INCREASE WAS 7.75 HP. MY VALKYRIE ARE NOW RUNNING TOO LEAN ON LOW RPM AND TOO RICH ON HIGH RPM. i HAVE ORDERED SIZE 38 SLOW JETS (STD IS 35) AND 95 MAIN JETS (STD IS 100). I WOULD THINK I WILL GET AT LEAST 5 HP MORE WHEN ITS 100% TUNED.

I have changed to #38 slow and #98 main jets.

I have not had a new dyno test,

but by my butt dyno tell me this works good!
